Is the climate changing?
In this section you will learn more about changes that have been occuring in
The time for debate is over: the Earth ’s climate is changing in significant ways. Scientific evidence strongly supports this claim: instrumental records show that the planet as a whole is warming, with a greater degree of warming occurring in some very sensitive parts of the world, such as the Arctic.
We are currently able to identify and measure many effects on the natural world as indicators of climate change. We are currently observing widespread changes that are affecting our landscape, such as rising sea levels, melting permafrost, a decrease in sea ice (both in extent and in thickness), glacier retreat and shifting vegetation zones. These profound changes are affecting people, animals, insects and plants. The entire living world is feeling the effect of a changing climate.
