Crops
In this section you'll find suggestions on:
- managing soil in healthy ways
- managing nutrients, both organic and inorganic, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Of Manitoba ’s agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2004, 47% came from agricultural soils.
Carrying such a heavy load of Manitoba’s farming-related greenhouse gas emissions may seem overwhelming for the crop sector, but there is good news. There are practical on-farm measures related to crop production that can reduce these emissions without hurting the wallet. And most are simply good management practices that will also promote long-term soil productivity, protect water quality and preserve profitability.
